General Product Description

Normalized structural steel heavy plate.

SSAB Multisteel SNL is hot rolled structural steel for general steel constructions. SNL = Structural Normalized Low Temperature.

Exceeding the requirements of several standard steel grades, SSAB Multisteel SNL is a versatile structural steel for fabricated products and steel frame structures. Formability and highly consistent quality guarantee fast, uninterrupted production, generating clear savings in the costs of material management.

SSAB Multisteel SNL exceeds several steel standards and is available as six standard steel grades: S355N and S355NL according to EN 10025-3 and S355K2+N, S355J2+N, S355J0+N and S355JR+N according to EN 10025-2.

CE marking:

SSAB Raahe Works is authorized to use the CE marking for structural steels according to EN 10025-2 and EN 10025-3 based on EN 10025-1.

The CE marking is marked on an extra page of inspection certification 3.1.

                  Fabrication and Other Recommendations

                  Welding:

Weldability is excellent with all welding processes. Increased working temperature requirements are less than those of the corresponding strength grades of standard steels. This means easier welding and cost savings under both workshop and site welding conditions.

Needed working temperatures for thick plates please consult SSAB Tech Support.

                  Forming:

SSAB Multisteel offers better formability properties than standard steels. Successful forming requires that the manufacturer uses good workshop techniques. Worn tools, poor lubrication, scratches on the surface of the steel as well as edge burrs will all reduce forming quality.

Guaranteed minimum bending radius for all directions is 1.5 x t up to 30 mm thick plate where t = plate thickness.

                  Heat treatment:

Recommendations for stress relieving and normalizing

                  Stress relieving 550 – 600°C (target 580°C)

2 minutes/millimeter of thickness, however, 30 minutes minimum. Slow cooling in the furnace.

                  Normalizing 900 – 940°C (target 920°C)

1 minute/millimeter of thickness, however, 20 minutes minimum. Cooling in free air.

For information concerning fabrication, see SSAB´s brochures on www.ssab.com or consult Tech Support.

Appropriate health and safety precautions must be taken when bending, welding, cutting, grinding or otherwise working on the products.
