Safety work at SSAB
It is a fundamental requirement for working at SSAB that employees feel a personal sense of responsibility to work safely every day. All employees are encouraged to sign SSAB’s safety pledge, which is a commitment to always put safety first. The safety pledge also applies to contractors and other partners working at our sites. We are constantly working to strengthen our safety culture, increase training and improve the sharing of knowledge within the Group.
Safety work is integrated into our management system and summarized in the Group’s policy document on safety. This contains principles for health and safety that meet or exceed all applicable laws, regulations and internal requirements. SSAB’s safety management system meets the requirements of ISO 45001 and has been implemented at all SSAB sites. The line organization has overall responsibility for health and safety issues, compliance with applicable safety requirements and for conducting risk assessments. All divisions have goals for safety, which are followed up regularly by the Group Executive Committee.

All employees at SSAB are expected to assume responsibility for their own safety and that of others.

Goals
We want to prevent all injuries and occupational injuries. Safety is measured, for example, in LTIF (Lost Time Injury Frequency), an established standard for measuring the number of injuries resulting in an absence of more than than one day, per million working hours. Our goal is an LTIF of less than <1.0 by 2024, compared with 0.87 in 2022. Another goal is TRIF, which measures total recordable injuries, per million working hours. We are aiming for 5.5 by 2024, compared with 6.2 in 2022.
