Steel piles right for your project

SSAB offers a versatile range of steel pile dimensions so you get the optimal size, steel grade and length for your project. Piles are installed with driven or drilled technology and come in diameters of 76.1–1220 mm (3.0–40.0 in.) and thicknesses of 6.3–23 mm (0.25–0.91 in.). Our steel grades made for piling are up to S550J2H.

Retaining walls with higher resistance

Traditional retaining walls are often cast in place and labor intensive. The smarter choice is retaining walls from SSAB based on steel piles. Our walls have higher resistance against vertical loads than regular sheet pile walls and feature excellent bending stiffness. Our RD® pile wall is designed specifically for challenging conditions and faster implementation.

RD® pile wall: For difficult ground conditions
Combi wall: Retaining walls based on steel pipes

Pressure pipes for water mains, district heating and cooling

Our steel water mains are a reliable and cost-effective solution for drinking water and for sewage. We ensure the long life of our pressure pipes by using an external polyethylene coating and an internal concrete or epoxy layer suitable for drinking water. Joints can be made by welding or using flanges and couplings.

Hailuoto Causeway

Road access to Hailuoto has been studied since the early 1980s. Current general plan was made in 2016 and the HAIKI-alliance for the project was formed in 2022. The construction began in May 2024 and it will be completed in 2026. Economically the road access in quite expensive, but on the other hand both of the ferries are getting old and they need to be replaced with new ones. Also the continuous operating costs of the ferries are not low.

Pumping station 40 - Luleå

Luleå is a region in growth. Its existing water and waste system is now 60-100 years old and in great need of upgrading to deal with the growing population. By 2040, the population is expected to reach 100 000 inhabitants. “Östre länken” was initiated in 2014 and will be ready in 2026. It consists of 4 new pumping stations and 20 km of water pipes with a diameter of up to 2 meters. This is Luleå Municipality’s biggest construction project ever and has an estimated price tag of up to SEK 2bn. There are already 70 pumping stations in the area to ensure the transportation of fresh water from the Lule River to end users and then transport the used water back to Uddebo wastewater treatment plant.

The entrance of the harbour of Klaipeda was strengthened with RD® pile wall

Reconstruction of Klaipeda Northern Breakwater

In the project ‘Reconstruction of Klaipeda Northern Breakwater’, the entrance of the harbour of Klaipeda was strengthened and renewed. In the course of this construction work, a retaining wall was built underwater at the foot of the breakwater at the narrowest point of the entrance. Through the installation of this wall, it was possible to design a rectangular cross-section between the northern and southern breakwaters, thus achieving a depth independent of the breakwater slope. Main contractor for the project was Depenbrock Ingenieurwasserbau GmbH & Co. from Germany.

SSAB Large diameter piles in deep and steep Norwegian fjords

Green shipping has long been a goal for Norwegian transportation. This has led to heavy investments in electric and hybrid transportation ferries. These ferries are used to allow road traffic to pass over the huge number of fjords along the Norwegian coast line.
