Hardox® 500 Tuf gives you real savings in operation and production

Based on real-life data: The examples of savings by upgrading to Hardox® 500 Tuf are based on a truck traveling 100,000 km (62.137 miles) per year for 6 years. The increased load capacity and other benefits in operation and production are the result of changing from 6 mm (0.236”) thick Hardox® 450 to 5 mm (0.197”) thick Hardox® 500 Tuf.

What a difference 1 mm (0.039”) makes

The weight benefits of reducing plate thickness are easy to calculate. Going from 6 mm (0.236”) to 5 mm (0.197”) saves 17%, just like that. Not only does it make the body 17% lighter. You need to purchase, store and handle 17% less steel. And a 17% reduction in plate thickness cuts down on welding time and the need for welding consumables. Put in your own numbers and see what upgrading by downsizing means for your product.

The Italian OEM Mantella is a good example of how a thinner plate saves weight in a dump body. Using a 1 mm (0.039”) thinner plate of Hardox® 500 Tuf made the body 365 kg (805 lbs.) lighter.

The world’s hardest wear steel with structural properties

Hardox® 500 Tuf has a guaranteed hardness interval of 475-505 HBW for high wear resistance in the most challenging abrasive applications.  The toughness makes Hardox® 500 Tuf perform as a structural wear steel. It will keep your dump body in good shape, standing up to impact from large and heavy objects striking the plate. The high toughness with a guaranteed impact energy of 27 J at -20°C (20 ft-lb at -4°F), and a typical value of 45 J at -40°C (33 ft-lb at -40°F) gives you great performance in any climate – even better for equipment operating in freezing conditions.

Follow the evolution of Hardox® wear plate

Hardox® 450 has been the workhorse for wear applications for a long time. Now it’s time for the next step with the arrival of Hardox® 500 Tuf. The hardness of this steel has jumped more than 10% compared to Hardox® 450. And since wear resistance isn’t a linear phenomenon, the increase in hardness can give an increase in wear life as high as 50% – of course depending on the abrasive material and operating conditions.

So if you’re looking for a longer-lasting body, Hardox® 500 Tuf is the way to go.

Hardox® 500 Tuf is easy to work

Whether you’re going to weld, bend or machine Hardox® 500 Tuf, you can expect this steel to deliver predictable performance. Hardox® 500 Tuf even comes with guarantees for narrow flatness and thickness tolerances and bending performance, ensuring cost efficiency and product quality in the workshop. Using thinner dimensions means less bending force is required.
