By adopting Hardox® 500 Tuf steel as its primary material, Indonesian manufacturer PT Sanggar Sarana Baja has increased dump truck payload capacity by up to 20 percent. The upgrade also means reduced carbon dioxide emissions for its end customers.
PT Sanggar Sarana Baja (SSB) was founded in Jakarta in 1977 and the company's line of business today includes the manufacturing of heavy machinery and equipment.
With a significant portion of its clientele operating within the mining sector, SSB needs to deliver products that offer higher productivity and durability.
“The concern for our customers is always to increase the productivity as well as increase the payload target for every transport. However, we view this challenge as an opportunity to always improve, to be able to create even better products that have even more value in the future,” says Ahmad Mazza, Division Head of Product Development at PT Sanggar Sarana Baja.
The company's latest solution to this challenge is its SSB Optiload dump truck bodies, crafted from Strenx® 700E steel and Hardox® 450 and Hardox® 500 Tuf wear plates.
“The benefits of the Optiload Body is that it has a lighter body weight and larger capacity, and other beneficial features for operations. This means they can decrease the maintenance cost while also increasing productivity,” says Ahmad Mazza.

SSB Optiload Body is developed to maximize the payload potential of the customer's fleet. The unit is attached above different dump trucks and is usually used to bring overburden or coal.
In 2023, SSB started to upgrade the steel in its machinery and equipment from Hardox® 450 to Hardox® 500 Tuf. The first project with Hardox® 500 Tuf was with the 43 m3 side dump trailer.

The results of the upgrade were so good that SSB has since also upgraded its Optiload Body with a load capacity of both 70 m3 or 120 m3.
Ahmad Mazza says that the company has high expectations for what the upgrade from Hardox® 450 to Hardox® 500 Tuf will mean for its product development.
“By using Hardox 500 Tuf we have set a target to decrease the body weight by 10-20 percent and also increase its lifespan from 1,000 to 2,000 hours. Hardox 500 Tuf is stronger while still having production propensities similar to Hardox 450.”
Mining company PT Cipta Kridatama has been a customer to SSB for many years and uses SBB Optiload dump bodies.
“The Optiload Body has answered our needs, especially in terms of productivity and durability. The benefit for us in fuel consumption is about 6-7 percent in fuel savings per driving cycle and productivity has increased by 10 BCM (Bank Cubic Metre) per hour. This has a positive impact on both our operations and the environment,” says Syaidina Usman, Senior Specialist Equipment Management, PT Cipta Kridatama.
SSB has been a customer of SSAB since 2016. Lina Herlina describes SSAB as a good and important partner and sees the partnership continuing into the foreseeable future. In May 2023, SSB became the first Indonesian customer ever to become a member of the Hardox® In My Body customer program.
